Afraid of going to the dentist? Do you put off getting your teeth cleaned because of how sensitive your teeth are? Would you rather endure the agony of a toothache than step foot in the dentist’s office? You’re not alone. Many are so afraid of going to the dentist that they prefer not to have any treatment at all, often to the detriment of their dental health.
For those of you who avoid dentists’ offices like the plague, sedation dentistry may be right for you. Sedation can be used for everything from invasive procedures like surgery or fillings to a simple tooth cleaning.
There are different levels of sedation we can use, including:
• Minimal sedation – where you are awake but relaxed;
• Moderate sedation (or “conscious sedation”) – where you may slur your words when speaking and not remember much of the procedure;
• Deep sedation – where you are on the edge of consciousness but can still be awakened; and
• General anesthesia – where you are completely unconscious.
Regardless of which type of sedation you receive, you’ll also typically need a local anesthetic to relieve pain if the procedure causes any discomfort.
Our office offers various levels of sedation to help you through your dental procedure. Contact our office today to schedule an appointment and find out if sedation dentistry is right for you.
